Server Problem No. 2: IIS failed to start
During the NGCP’s privatization last June 30, 2009, I was transferred to NOD. One of my duties and responsibilities is to manage and maintain their intranet wherein almost all of their reporting system resides. I’ve mentioned last time that I am having a problem with the connectivity. This time, another problem was raised and I considered it a difficult one.
Last night, I’m surprised when my sister told me that Diday (one of my colleague) was looking for me and it’s quite unusual. And when I called her, Lo and Behold, it’s just what I’m thinking. NOD intraweb cannot be accessed!
I arrived at exactly 6:41AM the following morning. Managed to checked the server and yes, the anti-virus was not updated since July 23, 2009. And there it is “Generic host process for win32 services encountered a problem and needed to close this error occurred on 8/19/2009 at 6:36:12 AM’. I tried to google it. and yes, it is definitely a virus. “Generic host process for win32 services” is also known as svchost.exe
I’ve found a hotfix from windows. Hayyy… I hope this would resolve the problem.
Updated 7:00PM
The hotfix doesn’t resolve the problem. I’ve found out that the server can’t be pinged from the network but he can see the other PC, even made a reply from the other server. The firewall was off which was intentionally left it off. I did try to update the security updates through the Microsoft’s website but to no avail. Scanned the existing anti-virus and even installing avast still won’t work. Checked the system by running the DS software. No spyware and all. This really gave me a headache! It took me 3 hours when Charm (another colleague) came for the rescue. That’s it! I need to be refreshed! I leave the office at 11am, went home, have a nap, and a half-hour research. Just then I realized, why would I worry? All I need is to create another back-up of the back-up server and reformat. LOL!
My mind was settled when I arrived at the office at 2PM, I backed up all the files at the same time, installed the IIS in my PC and a configured it a little. Load it all up and Thank God! 192.168.242.62 was UP again.
Yes, I know there might be a hell day on Monday. But I guess that’s part of the challenge. In the meantime, I have to take a break and enjoy the remaining hours of my weekend.
